Hi my name is Kay and I live North of Perth with not only my beautiful
Selkirk's, we also have 2 staffy's, budgies and our chickens, Myrtle and Mavis.
The name Emikoo is a combination of my daughters and my names.
I have been breeding Selkirk's since 2006 having started with a straight haired
desexed boy Ragamuffin. We began showing in the companion class with much
success. Buffy is the most laid back, smoocher which is the nature of a Selkirk.
We could not help falling in love with them.
Selkirk's are very much people oriented cats. They love to be around you
wherever you are. It is not unusual to be sitting watching TV and being
surrounded by these beautiful furries. I am privileged to have the support,
guidance and friendship of a large number of other breeders. The aim of my
breeding is to continue to improve the type of the Selkirk and maintain their
beautiful temperament.

All Emikoo kittens will go to their new homes vaccinated,
desexed, wormed, flea free and vet checked I am registered with the Feline
Control Council of Western Australia (FCCWA) and follow their code of ethics.

About the Selkirk Rex
Compared to many other breeds of cats the Selkirk
Rex is very new. It was first discovered in 1987 in Montana USA. A worker at an
animal shelter saw a female cat with curly fur. She was a blue – cream and white
shorthair cat. Her fur was thick, gently curled on her neck legs and tummy. Jeri
Newman bred Persians but decided to take this strange cat home. She names her
Miss De Pesto. Jeri did some research and decided to mate her with a Persian
male.
The litter of six was born in July 1988. She
produced 3 curly and 3 straight haired kittens. One of the curly males names No
Face Oscar Kowalski was mated with Persians, Exotics and British Shorthairs to
discover if the curly gene was dominant which was correct.
The Selkirk Rex is a medium to large, heavy boned,
muscular cat. The head is round with a definite muzzle. The head is similar to a
British Shorthair, but has more roundness. The most distinctive feature of the
Selkirk is their curly coat. The coat is thick, very soft, plush and falls into
loose curls.
Selkirk's can be both longhaired and shorthaired.
They come in all colours and patterns. To enlarge the gene pool we have been
permitted to use the British Shorthairs, Exotics and Persians. Special care has
been taken to develop their personality. Selkirk's are cuddly, tolerant, playful
and loving.
